Diptych: even MORE Ordinary out of place

Following up on our first photographic assignment, we had to create a diptych by mixing our photo in with the picture from another student.
With this exercise, I wanted to enhance this feeling of the ordinary being out of place by creating an even more distorted reality similar to a fever dream.
I chose to work with Helen’s picture (Seen Strangely Through Glass, 2021) because of its colours and patterns. My first thought seeing it was that the kaleidoscope could give my image a stranger feel to it and truly seperate it from our reality, as if it was set in a completely different universe.
At first, I felt quite frustrated using Photoshop: as I said before this software can feel quite complicated but I managed to push through and create a result I was contempt with.
Still, I am starting to familiarise myself with Photoshop and I learned how to use the lasso tool and layers to make Helen's picture the background of mine to completely shift the setting of it.
However, I struggled making the photograph fit the HD format as the quality of my picture was not outstanding and I had to stretch it to make it fit the format, it looks quite pixelated.
To conclude, I’m happy with what I learned from this experience. In the future, I'll watch the LinkedIn Learning class on Photoshop again as well as the other more detailed class to try to really understand how Photoshop’s different tools work.
