'Spooky' the marshmallow whip/Animation final (Client Brief)

The animation:

For this animation brief, I wanted to make a fictive ad for « Spooky » the marshmallow whip (OLE&STEEN. 2021) by creating a simple and short narrative: Spooky the ghost is transformed into a cake (the actual product).

My goal was to create an ad that could be understood easily and by a wide range of people no matter their age, hence the simple story.

Making this animation proved to be more complicated than I thought: for example, I had to isolate myself in a dark room to be able to create the effect I wanted. It was a complicated and quite stressful process as it took me 5 hours to record 10 seconds but I loved seeing things slowly come together.

I used Halloween decorations to set the theme of this seasonal commercial and an old piece of t-shirt to create Spooky by just cutting it, drawing a face on it, and using string to hold him from the top of his head to make him float.
Furthermore, I chose to not add in typography but instead use Procreate to draw on some frames to fit with the ambiance.
I discovered the pause button which was really useful as I notably wanted to focus on the frame that shows the actual advertising so the audience can remember the name of the product but also the brand.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t import the modified images so I had to buy the premium version of Stop Motion.
Finally, I added a song called 'Ghost Duet' (Zong, L. 2017) using iMovie : it was my original source of inspiration for this assignment and It helped me set a light tone to the video.

In the end, this assignment taught me how hard stop-motion can be but also how delightful it is to do.
