Making a poster in Illustrator: a long journey

Recently, we continued experimenting with Adobe by working on a poster in Illustrator. We had creative liberty as long as the poster was to advertise Charlie Richardson-Smith's upcoming classical guitar performances.

I was delighted about this assignment as the poster had to be in French, my native language. But in spite of that, working with Illustrator was quite frustrating as some commands in the software do not make sense.
For example, I needed to tilt a text zone to fit the orientation of my design but it would not work. After searching for a very long time, I understood I had to use a different one, the rotate tool.

The process did not go very smoothly. Firstly, I struggled to find ideas of design I could use but thankfully my mom sent me some ideas and I got inspired to create the three coloured shapes as text areas: the shape and colours create a sort of dynamic I felt was previously lacking. Secondly, Illustrator shares a lot of similarities with Photoshop, which I personally find quite confusing to use. A lot of tools are hidden behind other tools and the layout is even more confusing as there is so much information everywhere.

However, some parts of the assignment did go well. From the beginning, I had the idea of creating a QR code leading to one of Charlie's performances and I'm glad I was able to fit this idea in the final result.

To conclude, even though the journey towards the end was difficult, I'm satisfied with the end result and in the future I hope to be able to understand Illustrator better.
